🏛️ Certified AADE provider
Signing must go through a certified e-invoicing provider — otherwise the documents are not legal. Ask explicitly which provider the app works with.
Comparison
A Greek business has two legal routes for its till today: a cash register with a fiscal device (ΦΗΜ) or a cloud cash register through a certified e-invoicing provider. Here is where they differ in practice — in cost, myDATA, payments and the everyday life of the till.
| Criterion | Traditional register (ΦΗΜ) | Cloud cash register (via provider) |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Hardware purchase + setup by a technician | No hardware to buy — runs on an Android tablet/phone you probably already own |
| Annual cost | ΦΗΜ maintenance, technician for failures and upgrades | Annual subscription — with SmartCashier from €149/year (excl. VAT) |
| myDATA / AADE | Transmission through the device; legislative changes often require a technician | Automatic transmission through a certified provider, with an AADE QR code and MARK on every document |
| EFT/POS interconnection | Depends on the register model and the terminal | Built in — the amount goes to the terminal automatically; SmartCashier integrates with 100+ providers and IRIS |
| Invoices | Usually needs a separate invoicing program | Receipts and invoices in the same app, with details auto-filled from the VAT number |
| Upgrades | New firmware or a technician visit for every change | Automatic from the cloud — the app is always up to date with legislation |
| Data & reports | On the device — Z reports, limited visibility | In the cloud, from anywhere: sales, VAT, customers, history — for your accountant too |
| Portability | Fixed on the counter | Fully portable — street market, delivery, tables, the customer's premises |
| Device failure | The till stops until the ΦΗΜ is repaired or replaced | Log in from any other Android device and continue — the data lives in the cloud |
| Internet outage | Operates standalone | Depends on the app — SmartCashier issues offline and syncs automatically afterwards |
The comparison concerns the two categories of solutions in general; where SmartCashier is mentioned, those are the app's actual features and prices.
Checklist
If you have decided to go cloud, the alternatives on the Greek market differ in places the advertising does not show. Before you choose, check the following:
Signing must go through a certified e-invoicing provider — otherwise the documents are not legal. Ask explicitly which provider the app works with.
Not just "works with weak signal" — it must issue documents with no internet at all and transmit them automatically afterwards.
Check that it connects to your EFT/POS provider (bank, Viva, MyPOS, Cardlink and others) and that it supports IRIS instant payments.
Hospitality needs tables and a floor plan; wholesale needs delivery notes and document conversions; farmers need ΣΔΑ/ΣΔΕ aggregated notes. Don't pay for a system you will fight to adapt.
Add up the subscription, any per-document charges, provider fees and equipment. Compare the total, not just the "from" price.
A serious solution lets you try before you pay — ideally with a demo account, without handing over business details.
SmartCashier
Voice item search, spoken announcements and an AI support assistant in Greek — the first cash register with Artificial Intelligence in Greece.
Receipts, invoices, hospitality tables, delivery notes, farmers' ΣΔΑ/ΣΔΕ, document conversions — you add modules when you need them.
Basic €149/year, Hospitality €199/year, Delivery & Farmers €49/year (excl. VAT) — and a free trial with a demo account.
